Raised by Wolves - Travis Fimmel to Star in TNT Sci-Fi Series By Nirat Anop (January 10, 2019, 4:22 am) Raised by Wolves

Travis Fimmel (Vikings) has been cast to star in TNT's upcoming sci-fi drama, Raised by Wolves, per Deadline's exclusive. Fimmel will take on the lead role of Father, an android tasked with raising children.

Raised by Wolves centers upon two androids — Father (Fimmel) and Mother — tasked with raising human children on a mysterious virgin planet. As the burgeoning colony of humans threatens to be torn apart by religious differences the androids learn that controlling the beliefs of humans is a treacherous and difficult task.

The drama hails from Ridley Scott (The Martian, Blade Runner, Alien: Covenant) who will make his television directorial debut with the series. Acclaimed writer Aaron Guzikowski, the visionary behind the highly lauded film Prisoners, will serve as showrunner as well as a writer. The series is being produced by Scott's Scott Free Productions in association with Turner's Studio T and Madhouse Entertainment, with Scott, Guzikowski, David W. Zucker (The Man in the High Castle) and Jordan Sheehan (The Terror), and Madhouse Entertainment's Adam Kolbrenner (Prisoners) and Robyn Meisinger (Prisoners) serving as executive producers. The International rights to the series will be distributed through Turner International.

"I love science fiction because science fiction is casting and opening up a brand-new arena," said Scott, who has had a lot of success in the genre on the feature side with a string of movies, from Alien and Blade Runner to The Martian. In Raised by Wolves, of which Scott will direct the first two episodes, "the way we come into this brave new world is almost like starting it from scratch with nothing; there are six embryos of children, and that’s the beginning of the evolution of the new race," says Scott.

Deadline also notes Raised by Wolves is the first of many sci-fi series in development for TNT as part of their sci-fi programming block.

Seven other dramas are in consideration for the sci-fi bock at TNT, including The Long Dark, created/executive produced by Drew Crevello, eyed to potentially become the second series after Raised By Wolves, and The Explorers, based on the short story by Philip K. Dick, from writer/executive producer Cris Cole and exec producer Isa Dick Hackett who also exec produces Scott Free's adaptation of Philip K. Dick's Man In the High Caste.

The Long Dark "is kind of religious apocalypse, and I find this fascinating because it's so close to the truth," says Scott.
